Google requires you to verify your Business Profile before you can manage it, respond to reviews, or make edits that go live. Verification confirms that you’re the legitimate owner of the business at that address. Without it, your listing is incomplete and largely uncontrollable. Google determines which verification methods are available to you based on your business type, location, and account history — you don’t get to choose.
Verification Methods
Individual vs. Bulk Verification
If you manage multiple locations, your verification path depends on the total number of locations in your account.
- Each location verified separately
- Choose from available methods (phone, email, postcard)
- Results in one verified location per process
- Standard path for single-location practices
- Verifies the entire account at once
- All locations in the account become verified
- Submitted via Google Business Profile Manager
- Review period can take several weeks
Common Verification Problems
Once verified, keep your profile fully optimized — a verified but incomplete listing still underperforms. See Direction’s guide to creating and optimizing your Google Business Profile for the full setup checklist.
